So I had to write about something that one of the students said yesterday...
We were reading a Martin Luther King Jr. book and it came to the page where "a very angry man killed Martin." The student I was working with looked at me and told me he didn't get it. So I explained that some people didn't agree that blacks and whites should be friends and go to the same places. He looked at me with the most innocent eyes and told me that instead of killing Dr. King, the guy should have just written an angry letter and threw it away.
I was completely amazed! I looked at him and told him that's exactly right. Why can't everyone think like this? I can only hope that he will keep this excellent mindset for the rest of his life and none of us grown ups will ever try to change him. This is truly something that I will remember forever.
I can't wait to hear who this was. I love your quotes as blog titles. I did that on my myspace blogs!! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to teach and I was always amazed at the thoughts my kids had. I have to wonder what this world would be like if adults could think as children do.
